Case Study: Consolidating Global Payroll with CloudPay
Since becoming a CloudPay customer, online marketplace leader Groupon has consolidated its global payroll operations to a single provider, running payroll for more than 8,500 employees across 18 countries all on the CloudPay platform. In this video, Groupon’s head of global payroll details the current state of payroll at Groupon and how the decision to consolidate providers has benefitted both the payroll team and the broader organization.
As Groupon grew internationally and made several acquisitions, the company encountered a number of challenges in managing and compensating its expanding multinational employee base. Their global payroll operation included 47 disparate systems and technology providers, comprising a broadly inefficient solution that prevented company management from getting the enterprise-wide view required to fully understand costs and processes, and scale appropriately.
Additionally, Groupon was lacking visibility and control over its human capital management and payroll processes, and had no integration between the two — meaning inconsistent processes across their global footprint, unsustainable administrative burdens, and issues with duplicate or erroneous data.
All told, Groupon has experienced an 11% cost savings since adopting CloudPay’s global payroll solution and integrating it with Workday’s HCM system.
Finding the Solution
The payroll and HR teams at Groupon prioritized standardized reporting, electronic payslips, and robust interfaces for its HRIS, data warehouse, and general ledger. The company also required a single contract for all locations, consolidated billing and invoicing, and processes to help maintain compliance amid the varying rules and regulations of the many countries in which it hires.
After considering a number of providers, Groupon identified CloudPay as the best solution to meet its complex payroll needs and support future growth. In addition to its robust, unified global platform, CloudPay’s Workday-certified interface enabled Groupon to deploy Workday HCM as it transitioned to a new payroll system.
Today Groupon processes payroll for more than 8,500 employees on the CloudPay platform and continues to report significant benefits from making the switch. Additionally, the transition enabled Groupon’s payroll team to reduce its volume of administrative work, allowing them to focus on more valued-added activities.
